The Empathy Assembly

Today, we started our day with the general assembly being led by class 12C. The empathy-themed event was a mindful wake-up call disguised as a series of beautifully presented programs. The theme was also in line with the Service-Learning Program, an ongoing initiative by our school which aims to inspire students to channel their empathy into doing something good for society, however small it may be.

The first event was an extraordinary rendition of classical dance by Vibha, who received first prize in the solo classical dance event at CMRIT. The well-coordinated steps, rhythmic movements, and evocative expressions had the audience enraptured, as was evident by the wave of applause she received after the dance. Following this, we had a thoughtful speech about empathy by Rashmi Ma’am, 12C’s very own class teacher. Her way with words had the audience tuned in from the start to the finish, as she spoke about the importance of empathy in our everyday lives and her own experiences with the display of empathy. It was a relatable moment for everyone, as a few instances mentioned hit home.

An impactful speech on the need for empathy in our society made us reflect on our actions and change the way we viewed the world. We also realized how small actions stemming from empathy could result in major changes in someone’s life. Demonstrating this, was a powerful play that followed. The well-scripted event showed us that there are always two sides to a coin. This play helped us realize how privileged we are and how we can use it to better our society. All it takes is a bit of empathy. The final section of the event was a melodious rendition of “count on me”, originally sung by Bruno Mars. It beautifully encapsulated the meaning behind the entire special assembly. It was the perfect dose of peppy we needed to start our day.

We would like to extend a huge thank you to 12C for making the start of our mornings so very insightful and special. The assembly was a pleasure to watch and inspired us to tap into our true potential. After all, a little empathy does go a long way.
