Reading week @ CMR NPS is in full swing. Every day is a new day – Watch Party, D.E.A.R ( Drop Everything and Read), storytelling, Wordle, Activities – Design a book Jacket, Create a comic strip, become a character, poster making – it’s super fun! Not only students but teachers are also enjoying celebrating this awesome reading week.
Today for Grades 5 & 6, a silent French movie was shown to the students “Un monde a decouvrir”. It was an animated story about a young boy who goes to a library for the first time and discovers, in books and their words, a universe that will follow him until the end of his life. It was very beautifully animated and showed how the love of books and the passion to read them all keeps growing in the boy until the end.
Grade 5 and 6 students along with teachers discussed how books play an important role in one’s life and there is truth in the saying,” Books are our best friend”. It was heartening to note that some students had picked up the reading habit during the lockdown when they were locked up in their homes. Today, they are happy that they could inculcate the reading habit and it has helped manifolds – increase focus and attention span, improve mental health, a good exercise to tickle your brain, stress buster, and much more.
After that the much-awaited WORDLE activity came in – it has taken the entire internet by storm. However, some students were still unaware of the games, the class teachers were there for help though. Wordle is an online word game that you can play every day. Wordle gives players six chances to predict a five-letter word that is chosen at random. If you put the proper letter in the right location, it becomes green, as illustrated above. When a proper letter is typed in the wrong place, it turns yellow. A letter that isn’t part of the word in any way appears grey.
To explain them better, they were shown a video from YouTube where a tutorial was shown helping the students have a better understanding of the game. The students seemed enthusiastic and excited to play and outshine their peers. It was a fun activity. The word for today’s activity was “ SHARD”
The students were excited to learn about the games and said it was better than the other crosswords, as it’s only one word and you get six opportunities to reach down to the main word and they can also play it with their friends. All in all, Day 3 of the Reading Week was full of excitement and fun.
