One of the most prominent festivals in Hindu culture – Diwali is celebrated with much fanfare throughout various communities in the Indian diaspora. Also known as the “festival of lights”, it is generally a five-day celebration wherein families get together, friends indulge in merry-making, light lamps, and diyas as well as gorge on sweet delicacies. This festival is celebrated on Amavasya or ‘no moon’ day and marks the dawn of a New Year according to the Hindu calendar.
To mark the onset of the festival our tiny tots belonging to the pre-primary perform and showcase an assembly and portray their heartfelt messages about the festival. The event began with our head girl Anisha talking about Diwali and wishing everyone a happy and safe Diwali. It was then handed over to Surabhi and Akshay the hosts of the event who with their cute smiles and positivity hosted the event in a fabulous manner. Surabhi now introduced Ananya who invoked the blessings of the lord with her melodious voice by chanting a beautiful shloka. Then we had Anna George share the thought of the day, next we had with us Anaya who shared with us the dates of the festival and the five days it was spread over which was followed up by Arjun giving us a very informative weather report. Next up we had Lakhi sing a beautiful song about Diwali. Then we had Hardik share with us a beautiful poem about the festival. This was followed up by Nihal and Yuhan who tell us about the importance of the festival and also how families celebrate it with sweets, good times, and blessings from the lords.
Next up we had Akash introduce Anushka and Avantika who lit up the virtual stage with their diyas, smiles, and graceful dance moves with an upbeat Diwali song. Then we had Ransh explain to us how the festival was spread over the five days and what was the importance of each day.
This year more than any other requires us to go on the eco-friendly route and not burst crackers and this was perfectly explained to us by Reyan with a slideshow explaining to us the repercussions of bursting crackers. To top it all we had the tiny tots in a video wishing each one of you. The smiles and happiness in the video made everyone’s day and got us into the Diwali spirit. We Thank Swati ma’am for attending the event and for motivating and congratulating the little ones on a fabulous assembly. The event ended with congratulating all the tiny tots and a thank you note by our head boy Harshil. The event overall was a great success and just portrayed how hard all the little ones and their teachers worked to put it together and make everyone’s day. Stay safe and wish you all a very happy Diwali.
