World Environment Day 2022
We, like children, are often told about how our generation will be the one that will save the world, that we will find new and sustainable ways to preserve the minimum resources we have left. However, we on a united front are rapidly depleting all reserves and resources and who is to say we will have much left to save.
The need to stop and take stock has never been more imperative and that makes this World Environment Day extremely important. Hence, on this occasion, we at CMR National Public School have dedicated a week to activities where students come together and pay tribute to nature. This was done to promote the need to look out for our environment and embed it more deeply in the students. While Environment Day celebrates a lot of aspects, we choose to focus on the theme “Save Soil”, to raise awareness of its less talked about and deteriorating conditions. The lack of organic content in soil is turning it into sand, which will give rise to a whole new set of global issues including loss of livelihood and biodiversity, food crisis, migration, etc.
Today, students were divided based on classes and houses and had to team up and create posters that best depict the theme while also conveying the need to protect it.
The teams had around 45 minutes to come up with a game plan and execute it. It was a fun bonding activity where we had to brainstorm different ideas and think about ways we’re lowering soil quality that would otherwise go unnoticed.
While educating ourselves about the impact our lifestyles have on the environment might be a small way of helping, it’s a start. We hope that learning about small things today will help us make big changes tomorrow. As they say, let’s all try and leave the world a better place than we found it.
