Have you ever made that spelling mistake that even autocorrect couldn’t change? Is there that one time where you just couldn’t get away with that minor spelling mistake? I know I have. Our school has taken this into consideration and recently hosted the Spell bee for the academic year 2021-2022. I was one of the enthusiastic participants in this year’s spelling bee.
Like I said I have made quite a few spelling mistakes, even ones that autocorrect couldn’t change. I decided that the spelling bee was a perfect opportunity for me and all other students alike. There were many participants over the grades, everyone not knowing what to expect and willing to accept a challenge and not just improve their spellings but also get a chance to level up their competitiveness. As the preliminary round commenced everyone nervous yet excited started answering questions and once the preliminary round was done everyone awaited holding their breaths for who will qualify. To many people’s pleasure, there were several participants who were striving to achieve winning the spelling bee that they gave their one hundred percent. This ensured a tie-breaker round before the selected few would secure themselves around in the finals.
Those lucky few who secured a spot in the final round felt the heat crawling up to them. I too found that as we leveled up the harder the questions we got. We got the true taste of competitiveness in the finals where scores were neck to neck with each student striving for first place. We had different rounds each challenging our spelling in unique ways including unjumble the letters, filling in the blanks, choosing the correct spelling, and various other rounds that not only challenged our spelling ability but also our reflexes and our speed in the field.
I really enjoyed the spelling bee and am grateful to be able to take part in it. I like how it gamified learning new things (particularly spellings). I have to admit it really tested my thinking ability and speed to spell and recognise. It improved my ability to be spontaneous. Be careful of those spelling mistakes, you never know when they’re going to get the best of you (pun intended). Last but not least I would like to thank our school for giving me and many others a platform to test our abilities and at the same time have fun.
