Role of Parents

Role of Parents

Parents are our first teachers and the home our first school. Education as imparted in school is merely an extension of the key values and skills instilled in young learners during the preschool years.

From the first faltering steps we take to the crucial life decisions we make, the guiding loving presence of our parents is a constant factor in the journey of life. The journey undertaken by the young learners at CMR is one which remains incomplete without positive reinforcement from the parents. Learning is a continuous, collaborative experience between the child, teachers and parents. In the initial years, parents are expected to encourage their wards to take up responsibilities-starting with packing their bags to completing their work on time with adequate supervision and encouragement to keep them going.

During the early learning years, good habits like maintaining the correct posture, neat handwriting, a balanced nutritious diet, adequate sleep and a routine, disciplined lifestyle goes a long way to ensure the learning process is an enriching, rewarding experience. Parents are expected to set the precedent on their wards in every sphere of life, hence a harmonious home atmosphere based on love, empathy and adherence to values is of utmost importance. Parents are advised to be cautious in their implementation of the ‘reward and punishment policy’ to bring about awareness of what is acceptable and what isn’t. Good work/behaviour on the part of their wards could be appreciated less through material rewards and more through expression of emotions-a warm hug, a cuddle and a kiss is far more effective a reward than an expensive toy that the child always wanted.

A significant percentage of the learning is subconscious, happening through the conditioning children receive at home. It is therefore essential for parents to entrust their faith in the institution, its ethos, norms, code of conduct and teaching methods, for their wards to develop an attitude of respect towards the school.
