Model United Nations Club

Model United Nations Club

Motto: Come. MUN. Be. Unique

Mission: The first step to having our school dominate at any inter-school debate competition or MUN Conference is to receive adequate training regarding procedures. The MUN Club is an experience-sharing platform, wherein relatively experienced MUNers of the club help the others with strategic planning and execution of the same, in a real committee. The MUN Club has a fairly simple mission – Make Every Delegate The Best Delegate.

Vision: To ensure that every member of the MUN Club understands the current geo-political situation and problems faced by individuals residing not only in the vicinity, but also in the remote corners of the World. The main goal is to instil compassion in every student, and encourage them to promote world peace. We envision every member of our club as being leaders of tomorrow, equipped with facts and a rationale to combat any oppression, to lead mankind on a less destructive path.

Another goal would be to make the MUN Club’s popularity reach far and wide, to ensure a greater strength in the coming years.

Agenda and Activities:

Through the MUN club, we will be aiming to help students work towards personality development and compliment their classroom learning by grooming them on how to deliver what they have learnt in the classroom through speech and group discussions.

The following are the activities we would like to carry out during the club sessions.

  • Conduct Mock Sessions simulating an MUN conference
  • Group discussions on Current Affairs
  • Building Leadership Skills
  • Essential tips on Effective Communication

The idea of MUNing is to encourage students at the school level to deliberate over issues being discussed by the global community and lead them to understand that individual can make a difference to the world. By wearing a suit and pretending to be diplomat for a day, students are motivated to voice their opinions and the experience helps activate their creativity and imagination through a fun experience.

The club would like to have an inter-house MUN, if possible, to involve the students in the school to get a first-hand experience of the energy that runs in an MUN before attending any other inter-school events.

Suggested Divisions:

It is suggested that the club is not divided for the first few sessions, when introduction to procedures are being conducted. Following which, based on personal interest, the members can pick one of the below mentioned divisions:

ECOSOC (Any Economic, Humanitarian and Environmental committee) – Usually a slow paced, less intimidating committee that will discuss issues like women empowerment, climate change or the Eurozone Crises in detail. Highly recommended for 6th – 8th Graders.

Crisis Committee (Preferably the Security Council) – A crisis committee is an extremely fast-paced, nail-biting committee that looks at the world through an alternative timeline, where there is immense pressure on the delegates, to usually save the human race from destruction, for example – preventing a nuclear war. Suggested for the 9th Grade and above.
